Come Put It On Me

I miss the rise of your dimples
The light of your smile

The shine of your teeth
And the curl of your brow

I miss being in your presence
And feeling that glow

I want to hear you purr
That sweet soft sound you make

It’s in your hello
It’s in the breath you take

It’s all over you

Come put it on me.

That old nagging question

Should a man be responsible for maintaining the lifestyle of a woman who doesn't want to be married to him anymore?

That's the question I found myself asking as I read a brief excerpt about a request from Nas' soon to be ex Kelis.

Kelis (KA'lees) says in a court filing that she wants soon-to-be ex-husband Nas (NAHZ) to pay for tens of thousands of dollars in baby supplies.

Kelis Rogers is scheduled to deliver the former couple's first child next month. She is seeking $20,000 to buy strollers, cribs and other baby supplies for homes in Los Angeles and New York.

She is also seeking money to pay for a baby nurse, nanny and other staff. Her filing states she didn't work much in 2008 and is reliant on Nas, whose real name is Nasir Jones, to maintain her lifestyle and care for the child.
Associated Press

We can debate all day about whether she need's $20k for strollers and stuff. But if you ask me, it sounds like those aren't the wheels she's looking to buy with old boys money. I mean, how else will she be able to fully enjoy the homes in LA and New York! In addition to that, she wants dude to cough up money for a nanny and other staff AND help maintain HER lifestyle. I don't know about you, but that sounds like wife treatment to me, NOT ex-wife.

I hope Nas either has a great lawyer or gets a kind judge, cause it looks like dude will be needing to put out another album if Kelis has her way. I wonder if he'll decide to remake Kanye West's Gold Digger after this ordeal.

For the record, I agree that he should take care of his child all day long, but I don't think he should be on the dole for someone who wants to leave, but that's just my opinion. What's yours?

I see...

Bloggers!

You know blogging has taken on a new dimension when you start seeing people who remind you of other bloggers.

I have been noticing this young lady that rides the last leg of my mass transit commute each day. I kept feeling like I knew her from somewhere, then it hit me - She looks like Karrie B!

Since I missed the trip to NYC last October, I didn't get to meet Karrie, but it looks like I have my own version right here in St. Louis. I snagged a pic of her with my phone (since I don't know her either) so it isn't a fashion pose or anything.

I think the real Karrie B. is cuter, but they have similar features. The hair, the shape of the face, the nose. What do you think?

The St. Louis Karrie B. (I think she was eating something.)

What about you, have you seen anyone that reminds you of another blogger?

Revisiting Goals

I attempted to do a 1001 day goal setting task in 365 days some time ago and the 365 days have come and gone, so I thought I'd revisit my list. I found that I attempted most, completed some and left a few hanging. Nevertheless, the process enlightened me of a few things.

1. I don't do mundane tasks well. For the life of me, I can't stick to a workout routine. Maybe it is because I grew up relatively thin and just never worked out when I was growing up. I ran and played basketball back then, but now my knees can't take too much of that. In my opinion, lifting weights are a bore and after the initial energy boost, I hit a wall again after a few weeks. So, I'm trying to develop an active routine rather than trying to kill myself every few months because I haven't been consistent.

2. I need to sue Coca Cola. I've moved to Green Tea for flavor sake (I do drink more water) but I still crave those Cokes. I don't have one every day, but I usually want to. I would say I'm down to 2-3 a week compared with 2 a day when I started this quest. I'll get to zero eventually.

3. I need a writing challenge. When I wrote for Blogger's Delight, I did so because it was an exciting opportunity. I was fascinated with the other writers and I just wanted to prove to myself that I could do the doggone thing. As hindsight would have it, I realized I wasn't as good as I should have been on that project (I see so many mistakes I made). Yet, having a real project with a deadline made me hungry for the page. It made me heed the call to write.

When I try to write without deadlines, it is far too easy to let a story go by the wayside. Projects force me to dig in, and there is no tricking myself into making a pretend deadline. I can feel the tension and passion when it's real. I have finished two stories since being published in Blogger's Delight. One is stuck in editing (I have no deadline, so I haven't gotten around to completing the editing) and the other was accepted for an all male anthology which will be out later this year or early next year. More on that when the drop date approaches. Aside from those, I have a few stalled projects, one of which may see the light of day since it will be a challenge to write. Now, if I can just create an urgency to complete it, I'd be cooking with gas.

Things aren't all bad. I may struggle to write, but I realized that it was more to writing than getting published. Talent will only take you so far. Sooner or later you have to be willing to be taught a few things that you don't know you don't know because you aren't willing to listen to anyone. (I don't know who that was for, but you are free to apply it where you deem necessary.)

4. I come up with a ton of good business ideas and I'll either talk myself out of them or realize that the return on investment isn't as great as I anticipated. It's frustrating, but I guess it's like that for other visionaries as well.

5. I'm lazy, but a hard worker. This is the one insight that affects a lot surrounding my life. If something seems far off, I bemoan putting energy into it. If it's something I can see clearly, I'm all over it, with amazing intensity. I guess the real trick is changing the way I look at things, because time moves so much faster than we think.

I guess in the end I realized that I'm making slow changes. I always picture things happening faster than they do in reality, but as long as I have breath and take strides then I'm that much closer to reaching my goals. I guess I shouldn't have tried to re-invent the wheel. The 1001 day approach is more realistic.

What Time Is It?

Time changes regardless of your ability to accept it. Yet some people seem better prepared to deal with the winds of change than others. Do they see something you don't? Do they have an innate ability that you are lacking?

These are just a few of the ponderings that go through my mind when I look at the big picture. I see masses of people struggling to make their dreams come true and I wonder why success is so evasive. Is it that people really aren't putting the work in? Can it be as simple as "work harder"? I'm sure the answers are there if you look for them. They may just not be as obvious as one would hope.

Then the thought occured to me. Maybe people just don't know what time it is. Maybe their watch is behind the times. Despite their talents and abilities, maybe they are just using outdated models which won't produce the results as in times past. A perfect example of this is all of the people who want to make it as writers, musicians, and athletes. Despite putting in a great deal of time, a great percentage are stuck in their day jobs. So what is it? Have the times changed? Can you still make it the same way those in times past have?

Then there is the thought that times change to propel you into your future. In that case, it would seem that we are poised for a great change in the near future. In fact, many americans are certainly in the midst of a great socio-economic exodus with regard to their lives. I wonder if they see things in this light or are they full of fear and worry.

In the meantime, I've been evaluating, trying to ensure that the moves I make now have the ability to stand the test of time. I've been seeking out wisdom and today I'll leave you with a bit of it.

A slow watch tells the time, it will just make you late to life's events. A broke watch will tell the time, but it's right only a fraction of the time, and going around with no watch keeps you asking others for the time.

If you want to stay cutting edge, make it a point to know what time it is.

Freestyle Friday

Enjoy the holiday weekend!

It’s strange to see brothers
Called away
Hauled away
By the cool

Leaf toking
Wrapped in the brown smoking
Living by a different set of rules

I aint tripping cause it’s not like he got caught
Matter of fact
It’s our fault

Christians, that is

His dudes from the hood
Ride true
Come thru
While the images of men in the pew remain few

Brothers in the church avoid
Contact!
Make promises they don’t keep
No support
Heck I’m guilty too
You don’t have to tell me its whack

Everybody caught up in their own thing
Running the point in their own game

Ain’t no time
To show a brother love

Seems to be a major fall out
Why do brothers resist
The altar
They bail out

The church sows to the female
And they reap her
My question is
When will the church become the brothers keeper.

Tell Me Something Good Friday

Everytime you turn around, there is more bad news to be heard. Chrysler is closing local dealerships, foreclosures are still up, folks are still losing jobs, and on and on and on. But, I don't want to hear about any of that. I want you to tell me something good for a change. Anything! No matter how large or small, something certainly has happened good to you lately. Tell us about it.

I'll start. -- Yesterday I had the pleasure of going to see my twelve year old daughter perform in the 6th Grade Spring Concert. She played the drums during the final number. The amazing part is that I didn't know she could even play (neither did her mother). On top of that, she also knows how to read music now. I was so impressed. I am happy that she is making strides in areas I only dreamed about as a kid.

Now, it's your turn. Tell us something good.

Instruction

We all go through weak moments
Times of indecision

Going left feels good
Going right is calling you home

You close your eyes and go left…

For the moment

It’s good
But you can’t enjoy it
Your conscience always goes for a TKO

At every turn
You are hit with thoughts of righteousness
The life you have been called to live

Your destiny

You dance around the issue
Holding on as long as you can bear the pain
Left punch
Right cross
Body Blow

The longer you fight
The more your eyes swell
Making it harder to see your way clear

You strain

Beaten, battered and bruised
The corner man is trying hard to heard

You can hear him

Just listen
